Octapult Consulting was incorporated in February 2014. Initially, with a mandate of studying SMEs and start-ups within their innovation eco-systems and experience frameworks. During the course of our research we designed, developed and tested tools to measure and help improve collaboration, experience levels and disruption within organisational networks and their eco-systems. To validate our hypothesis, we developed a ‘hybrid equation’ for Pakistan’s culturally unique teams and enterprises, helping them start their journey towards innovations.

Over the course of past few years, Octapult has been involved in a diverse range of innovation centric projects. Mostly disruptive in nature, occasionally supported by technology. Our evolution revolves around developing organizational building blocks for start-ups and SMEs, ranging from business strategy, value proposition and experience design, organizational development, project management and above all experience re-engineering.

During our engagements with SMEs and Start-ups, we have studied collaboration from an experience management lens. Hence we believe that to remain relevant in future, organizations must focus on innovation as a discipline, specifically disruptive principles, deploying collaboration as an enabler for success!

As we continue to work on human-centered change using collaboration and technology to create impact within progressive organizations, our hybrid tools and techniques, designed to work in sync with Pakistan’s behavioral and cultural context, are becoming more meaningful to us and useful for our clients. Incubations within social and commercial sectors continue to be our learning ground for improving effectiveness of our tools.

We have successfully piloted and deployed Lego® in business and Lego® in education (specifically co-curricular) interventions and solutions. We currently use Lego® based solution to index collaboration within organizations and education institutions, with a purpose of improving 25 core behaviors that impact our ability to innovate.

Octapult is a coined word, which merges Catapult and Octave to form a unique word.

Catapult

Catapult as a word has Latin and greek origins. Ancient Greek word Katapelltēs. Which means to hurl something without the aid of explosive devices. Essentially, the first military innovation that helped evolve battlefields from hand-to-hand combat to indirect warfare.

Octave

Octave has it origin in Latin word Octavus, which means eighth. A perfect octave is the interval between one musical pitch and another with half or double its frequency. The octave relationship is a natural phenomenon that has been referred to as the “basic miracle of music”, the use of which is “common in most musical systems.

Context

We are not a disciplined society and our inability to collaborate hampers our ability to sustain growth and successfully innovate. Individual, Social and Cultural behaviors connect to form a collaborative eco-system where innovation, as an output can be achieved. The presence of these collaborative behaviors can be measured within individuals, teams and for any organization. In our cultural context, human resource challenge is real and faced by most SMEs and start-ups. Octapult believes that our inability to collaborate as individuals or foster collaboration across teams as individuals hampers our ability for successful and sustainable innovations. If we were to apply a culturally sensitive disruptive process to organizational change and development, we could improve our impact on business and eventually across customer networks. Hence our purpose focuses on our ability to help create positive impact through mapping  and improving experiences across the organisation.
